A Few Beliefs I Let Go of on the Way to Peace with Food

A Few Beliefs I Let Go of on the Way to Peace with FoodOur beliefs (aka mindsets or perceptions) are so important to look at because they run our lives. Beliefs that are helpful are great, but limiting beliefs unchecked can lead us in the wrong direction for years or decades. Looking at your beliefs and really questioning them is something that’s naturally done in Coaching and Acupressure (TAT). It’s always wonderful when a belief shifts for someone, as they’ll never go back to the limiting old belief, it just gets retired. That’s why the Food Craving sessions work, it works on the level of belief, so the changes last.

I’ve been thinking a lot about my own beliefs lately and how they’ve changed since I started on my path of learning about Nutrition and my body. I wrote down a few old beliefs, and followed it with a list of beliefs I have now. As you can see, they’re kind of the opposite.

Take a Look at What I USED to Believe:

  1. My body is dense and runs on food for fuel, and I have to reduce the fuel and deprive myself in order to maintain my ideal weight
  2. Food is the enemy, I need to figure out how to eat less of it and trick my body into staying thin
  3. My body has no intelligence and I can’t trust it
  4. I’m damaged and I’ll never have a normal relationship with Food
  5. Nobody has this problem as bad as I do
  6. I’m weak, broken and lack willpower

But, Here are the Beliefs that are True for Me Now:

  1. My body is full of energy, food is my fuel and I simply listen to my body and my own knowing to maintain my ideal weight
  2. Food is my friend, and I enjoy it, and naturally pay attention to my satiety signals
  3. My body is amazingly intelligent and it never lies, so it’s trustworthy
  4. I’m doing pretty well and I have a normal (for me) relationship with food
  5. This is a common problem in developed countries, and it was not unique to me
  6. I don’t need more willpower and I am not weak, trusting myself and my body gives me strength

The good news is that anyone can find freedom with Food. You can use Acupressure (TAT), coaching, and so many other methods of inquiry to help let go of what no longer serves you. It’s easy, but it does take work. The benefits are worth it.

Let me ask you this:

  • What are your beliefs about Food and your Body?
  •  How are these beliefs affecting you?
  • What beliefs would you prefer to hold?

I’d love to hear from you, please comment below.
