Have you noticed this with certain food items? It could be chocolate, candy, licorice, nuts, chips, the food item is not the issue.
The issue is the battle over eating, not eating and all that goes along with decisions and consequences. The battle is not fun, as it creates a whole lot of tension.
If we do start, then it’s a struggle of willpower to stop. If we don’t start, it’s a struggle of willpower to not start. I don’t know about you, but I have plenty of other areas of my life where I need willpower, and I’d rather not have to use all that energy around daily food choices. Did you know that you only have a certain reservoir of willpower in a day? It’s true, and every time you use your willpower, you’re draining your reserves. That’s one of the reasons it gets harder as the day goes on to resist temptation. It’s also due to hormonal and neurochemical changes as the day goes on, but that’s a different blog post!
Choice Around Food is the Key
I think it’s better to have choices that are easy and not charged and full of tension. Wouldn’t it be better to be able to stop if we start, or not start at all and have a peaceful feeling either way? No guilt, no shame, no regrets? Freedom of choice is a good thing, and can include eating some, enjoying it and not feeling regret too. This feeling of freedom is why I do what I do. I firmly believe that you too deserve to experience that freedom!
But, if you have strong cravings, being in control with your craved food feels like a dream. I know, because that’s how it felt to me when I was stuck in the cycle of cravings. Our brain chemistry is a powerful force and what it wants it will get one way or another. But, it doesn’t have to be this way. This whole pattern can and does change, I facilitate this change on a daily basis, and I’ll give an example below.
I worked with a woman who came to me because she had a problem with jelly beans. Once she started, she couldn’t stop eating them, and this only happened with jelly beans. In other areas of her life, she was confident and in charge, she couldn’t understand why it was so different with jelly beans. She came to me for a single session, just for her ‘’thing” around jelly beans. Here is what she wrote me after her session:
“Kara, I am so happy that I came to you for an Acupressure treatment for my sugar cravings. Not really an addiction, just an inability to stop after one piece of candy … all the way down to the bottom of the bowl. Well, I’m free, free of the devil candy. I really can have just one piece and not feel like finishing the entire dish. I am really impressed with the treatment. You have a lovely manner. I am delighted that we have met and I look forward to staying in touch. But thankfully not with “sugar” issues. I will highly recommend you and particularly your treatment for sugar cravings to family, friends and acquaintances. Thank you.”

Your Behavior Can Change
What happened during her session? She focused on the behavior she didn’t like while holding specific Acupressure points. Then she focused on how she would like it to be. The end result, is a change that persists with time, and eliminates the charge around the previously craved food. Then when she encounters jelly beans again, she’s not compelled, she’s able to make a choice and be in charge, because her neural pathways related to sugar have changed, she now has freedom of choice!
