This sounds like it should be a song. I’ve always had a hard time filling the role of the ‘Food Police,’ so I just don’t.
I remember one of my hospital jobs in Southern California, where I was given a list of forbidden foods to read to my patients upon their discharge (one of the foods on the list is pictured to your left).
I was instructed to read these patients a list of all the foods they shouldn’t be eating. This was not about moderation, the message was:
“You’ll never be able to eat another doughnut again!”
The look on their faces was something like despair or horror, I’m not sure which one. I knew I did NOT like this role. Is a doughnut once a week going to kill someone? Of course, it depends on their health condition, but probably not. But taking away their favorite foods wasn’t helpful and had a way of eliminating their ability to hear ANYTHING I said. They were then going back to their old habits, as I had nothing they wanted to hear. Walls went up!
There is something called moderation. If you are in charge of your eating, you can have a treat and not overdo, and an occasional treat is okay. If you work with me, I will help you get what you want, and this will feel healthy and satisfying to you, it will feel good. And I promise, I’ll never be your Food Police … Period!
I will guide you to know what you can get away with and not, which totally depends on your body. Remember, if you eat out of alignment with your body, only you suffer.
So, if you’re looking to be in charge of your eating, and eat an occasional treat without overdoing, I can help you.
