Love Your Body and Embrace Your Best Life

Happy Valentine’s Day! Or, Here Comes the Chocolate!

valentinesday_chocolateI hope your Valentine’s Day is Special! I know that a lot of you love Chocolate, and if so, I hope you enjoy some good high quality Chocolate on Valentine’s Day. It’s nice to be given chocolate, but I have no shame, I will buy it for myself.

I certainly enjoy Chocolate every so often and am very picky about the Chocolate I eat. It’s got to be dark, made with ‘real’ sweeteners, and free of anything that doesn’t belong (i.e. all natural please!). I usually have just one piece, and it satisfies my desire quite nicely.

But what if you find yourself surrounded by Chocolate or Valentine’s Day candy and this is uncomfortable?

You are not alone with this. I have patients come to me all the time and say they are addicted to Chocolate. So, what do you do when faced with Chocolate when you feel out of control with it?

You have a couple of choices when faced with irresistible Chocolate:

1. You can throw them away or give them away as fast as you can

2. You can ask someone to hide them for you and hope they a do it well

3. Eat the whole box, but regret it

4. Eat just one or two and ENJOY it fully! (I like this option)

5. Not eat any, and save them for when you will enjoy them

6. Let go of the programing that keeps you from being totally at peace with chocolate, in charge and able to say, yes, no or not now with ease

I’m a fan of #4 or #5, and hope that those are the one’s you are drawn to as well. If you haven’t been able to choose from a place of peace, I would suggest pondering #6. Number 6 can bring you and Chocolate into a more loving relationship, one of peace and ease. When you achieve #6, you leave behind the guilt and regret. Let go of the LOVE / HATE relationship with Chocolate. Go ahead, drop it like a BAD boyfriend!

Dropping the love / hate relationship and making peace with Chocolate has many benefits. For starters:

  • Chocolate won’t call to you as much. It won’t haunt you, or invade your thoughts
  • It will just be another part of your life, like any other thing you enjoy
  • You can still enjoy it, but there won’t be that charge around eating it, not eating it, feeling guilty, out of control, overeating and guilt, etc.
  • You won’t crave Chocolate, as much as you might have a desire for it, and that’s different. It’s more like a desire that can be acted upon or not, but YOU are in charge, not the Chocolate.

Contact me if you think this is sounds too good to be true. You may be asking, ‘How can I be at peace with Chocolate?‘ How can I give up my cravings for Chocolate when I love it so much? It’s possible, you let go of all the issues around it, so that it’s no big deal. This feeling of peace relative to Chocolate has just been a bit out of your reach, but I promise you, it’s not impossible to change your relationship for good.
