What Are Your Halloween Candy Memories?

What Are Your Halloween Candy Memories?

candy cornWhat are your Halloween candy memories? I was thinking today about my favorite Halloween candy and it was always the wrapped chocolates; Mounds, Almond Joy, Butterfingers, Snickers, Kit Kats and one of my favorites Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. My sister was much more inclined to the hard candy, candy corn and taffies, but I was a chocolate lover.

We graduated from paper bags to hold our candy to pillow cases, and we were determined to canvas the neighborhood and fill them up. Then, when we got home, we would analyze and compare our stash.

But ya know, my favorite memory of the neighborhood was my teacher’s house, Rosie. She invited the whole neighborhood over, and would have kids perform for their candy. The adults were all drinking booze I’m sure and enjoying themselves. It was the most fun place to be. We would go there, knowing it would cut into our candy collecting time, but it was just so much fun. Plus, Rosie was so encouraging of our performances and was a natural teacher, bringing out the best in us.

What I’ve seen over the years in working with people is that it’s not about the sweets, it’s about the people we’re with and oftentimes, our cravings come from the sweet memories we share with others.

Back to you, what were you favorite candy memories from Halloween?

I’d love to know, please share them in the comments below.
