Or, How Women Can Take Back The Advantage When It Comes To Food Cravings!
A study came out recently showing that women had a harder time resisting their Food Cravings when compared to men. The explanation made sense to me, and spoke of our inherent differences:
“The finding of a lack of response to inhibition in women is consistent with behavioral studies showing that women have a higher tendency than men to overeat when presented with palatable food or under emotional distress,” said Gene-Jack Wang, lead author on the study.
Bummer, right? It’s likely the biology of survival at work here, but the good news is that this did help us survive as a species. Times have changed, we’re not being hunted by wild animals, we have more ongoing chronic stress. Emotional distress is another word for stress. This kind of stress can cause us to overeat as a way of coping. Sometimes these coping mechanisms aren’t even in our conscious awareness, it’s automatic. And, it IS harder to resist cravings when we’re stressed, but that can change.
So before you get discouraged, please know that there is something you can do to take back the advantage as a woman.
Help for Food Cravings and Stress
By using an acupressure points combined with verbal statements, you can change the way you crave and how you deal with stress. After doing this practice, your cravings will fade into the background. Stress will no longer trigger cravings and if you are presented with food, you’ll be less likely to indulge your cravings. The bonus is that you’ll actually find a better coping mechanism that’s specific to you, and it feels better than eating. The way you handle stress will be updated, sort of like a software update, new, improved with more features and possibilities.
The food that you used to crave will still be there, but you’ll be able to say yes or no to it without distress or the use of excessive willpower. You can have that piece of chocolate cake, without eating the whole thing, or you can walk away from it, it will be your choice. You’ll also be more satisfied with less. How does that sound?
And while it may be easy to envy the men for their inherent ability to resist cravings, just know that women are more likely to seek help and follow through on getting what they need! Sorry, guys it’s true!
