Food Cravings and Holiday Eating

Food Cravings and Holiday Eating

Food Cravings and Holiday EatingThe holidays are upon us. You survived Halloween. How are you enjoying the season so far? Are you looking forward to it? Or, are you dreading the thought of overdoing on all the holiday food? The holidays don’t have to leave you in a food coma.

As you know, the holiday season can be a joyous time, but can also be a stressful time. Stress doesn’t usually help with food cravings, but it doesn’t have to be this way. I would love to see more people face the holidays with the deep knowing that they’ll be okay around food, that they won’t lose control, and that they will fully enjoy food and eating. And, that they can have this peace with food no matter what’s going on around them. That is my wish for you if you want it, and by the way, I know it’s possible. It’s not only possible, it’s also possible for you even if you feel out of control with food right now.

I was sharing with some colleagues recently that from now until January, my food craving business has historically slowed down. I understand why this has happened, as most people think that getting rid of their food cravings means they won’t be able to enjoy food and eating.

This my friend, is SO untrue!

When You’re Free of Your Food Cravings

When you’re totally free of those pesky food cravings, not only will you feel more in charge, when you do eat, you’ll feel more satisfied and enjoy the experience of eating more fully. You’ll feel an inner calm around food. People report that their tastes change and the smallest amount of sugar is plenty, or they have a more enjoyable experience of eating that leaves them not wanting for more. You will likely need less food to feel full or satisfied and you’ll feel good after eating, not stuffed full of food and guilt.
When you get to the root of the craving pattern, you’ll be able to ‘eat just one’ and not overdo if you choose. If you choose not to have something, you won’t be overrun by obsessive thoughts either. So many people tell me that they avoid certain foods completely because if they start, they won’t be able to stop. That can change if you want it to change.

Many people choose to stay away from the food they used to crave for their own personal reasons. They may choose to stay away from sugar if they’re pre-diabetic or diabetic, alcohol if they’re afraid of becoming alcoholic like their parents or in recovery themselves. Or, they may choose or continue to choose to stay away from wheat or gluten if they have celiac disease (just because you stay away from wheat / gluten, doesn’t always mean your cravings fade).

Whatever the outcome, the ‘chaotic static’ around food, eating and this dissatisfaction fades, and you’re left with feeling more connections between your brain and your belly. You’re more connected between your tongue and your brain, so that YOU are more in charge, not your survival brain. Plus, your overall health will benefit, because you’re able to eat the foods your body wants, instead of the foods your survival brain insists upon.

The Good News This Year

I’m glad to say that this year, the pattern of my food craving business slowing down has finally broken! Yeah! Men and women are coming in to get the help they need to enjoy the holiday season and experience more peace with food. This brings me great joy to share this work at this time of year when there is so much delicious food to be enjoyed, so many parties to attend, so much family and friend time to enjoy!

The great thing for me is knowing there will be less stress, more enjoyment and greater satisfaction in my patients lives now and for many holiday seasons to come. This will not only impact them, but their family members as well.

So, I invite you to join the alumni of my program if you’re struggling with cravings or overeating that are hard to change on your own. If you don’t work with me, please find the support you need to make peace with food for the holidays. This holiday season, give yourself the gift of Peace with Food!
