Bacon & Chocolate For Breakfast?

Bacon & Chocolate For Breakfast?

AshlandI’m writing from Ashland Oregon. I’m here with my Mom (she’s 80!) and I wanted to share what we’ve been eating for breakfast.

Why?

Because it may help you choose breakfast foods you enjoy AND love your body.

I often find people eat foods they THINK are healthy or avoid foods they THINK are unhealthy. This can take you off track and missing out on pleasure AND good nutrition!

Isn’t it time to get rid of the SHOULD’s?

The last 2 mornings, I’ve had bacon and chocolate for breakfast. You may be shocked, or not, but everyone seems to have a reaction to these foods, right?

Disclaimer: I apologize to the vegans, vegetarians and chocolate haters, but here me out.

My husband hates bacon and since I’m here with my Mom, we’re indulging a little on vacation!

This was a delicious and nutritious breakfast for MY body. It may not be for yours, but it was perfect for me and gave me sustained energy until my next meal 5 hours later.

Here’s what I had:

Bacon (humanely raised, no antibiotics, organic feed, etc.)
Farmers market tomato
Avocado
Cantaloupe
My Mom had some farmers market bread in addition to the above.

The day before, I didn’t have the tomato and had strawberries instead of melon. Both days, I followed my delicious breakfast with a square of very dark and delicious organic, fair trade chocolate.  I enjoyed it.

Here’s what I know for myself and my clients ==>> when we eat a breakfast that is right for our bodies, we feel good during the day.

Here’s a general breakfast combo that works well for most adult humans like you and me:

  1. A single protein (full fat yogurt, full fat cheese, humanely raised eggs, almond butter, etc.)
  2. A vegetable (not with yogurt, ick)
  3. A single fruit
  4. Some healthy fat source like grass fed ghee or butter, coconut oil, olive oil, etc.

The single fruit and protein help with digestive issues, so if that’s your sensitive spot, try the combo.

If I were to eat cereal with milk, pancakes, waffles, or bread especially without protein, I’d feel like crap and get hungry in about 2 hours. That’s not perfect for me. It could be perfect for an athlete though.

Back to chocolate. Sometimes I go weeks without any chocolate and that’s fine too. And it’s rare that I eat chocolate with breakfast, but can you guess why I do?

  1. It’s easier for your body to handle sweets in the morning than afternoon and evening
  2. It’s better to eat sweets after a meal with protein and fat to reduce sugar spikes and cravings
  3. Pleasure is important!

My body thrives on plenty of healthy fats likely due to the autoimmune issues I’m healing. Your body has unique needs too and it’s important to honor them.

You may wince at the thought of bacon but love pumpkin seeds. You may love or detest exercise, but you’ll find what’s perfect for you in the Challenge.

Until we meet virtually again, enjoy the perfect breakfast for you.

All the best,
