If you try to eat healthy but feel like you are losing control lately, feeling helpless to the oreos in the cupboard, self critical, and guilty when you indulge, then you may be living in jail but no worries, I have your get out of jail free card right here in this blog!
Last week, I talked about the food choices you could make to help to reduce cravings by using food as medicine. When you balance your blood sugar, you also reduce your level of stress, did you know that? This week, we’re exposing stress and one mental habit that keeps cravings coming back. The result? You can reduce cravings and find some peace with food during the holidays.
The combination of stress along with the belief that food is the best thing to relieve stress is a dangerous combination. While food, especially sugar and carbs, does relieve stress temporarily, it’s not the best option. There are other ways to relieve stress that are actually better, and don’t end up in putting on pounds. Plus, if you eat to reduce stress, the underlying stress is still there, unresolved. Not good.
Being exposed constantly to food AND stressful situations is a combination that leads to overeating. You have good intentions, but when peer pressure or stress hits, it all goes down the tubes and I know you don’t want to end up in a food coma feeling irritated, no energy, and empty.
Many people are afraid they have to either avoid holiday treats and feel deprived or fear they’ll overindulge, and gain weight. It’s an all or nothing food prison. You generally eat very well, avoid sugars and carbs, but with all the stress of the holidays, combined with candy, parties, and family events galore, you lose your willpower. But, it’s not your fault.
You can let go of the stress, and change this into a behavior you want, I can show you how. By working on the underlying patterns that cause you to feel stressed and then crave and overeat, you can enjoy your holidays guilt free. You can arrive in January feeling great about your food choices and ready to take on the New Year. Imagine arriving in the New Year feeling like you’re taking care of yourself and not the victim of your cravings. Wouldn’t that feel freeing?
