I grew up a skinny tomboy. I could eat anything I wanted and never thought I'd have a weight problem. Mom didn't give us much junk food, but Dad had some treats at his house and most of my food cravings were born out of positive experiences with my Dad.
I started getting neurotic about food in my late teens when I started to develop curves. Dieting and bingeing soon followed. In high school, I fainted once as I was dieting, skipped lunch, gave blood and didn't want to eat the cookie they offered me. There are other stories and you can read about them on my blog.
I went to study nutrition at UC Davis, so I could figure out how to control my body into being thin, and stop the horrible obsession with food. Once I mastered it, I could then show others how to do it. Ha! I quickly realized that science did not provide all the answers. What I learned, outside of my schooling, was that our bodies are wise, and if we listen to them, we CAN get what we want.
The obsession stopped and I did fine most of the time, but, during times of stress, I struggled with food and my weight. This went on for decades. I’d be fine for months or years, and then find myself going through the McDonald’s drive through and hiding the evidence. I've been everywhere between 115#-165#'s, and both extremes were unhealthy. How I was doing emotionally at the time determined how I ate and how much I weighed. But then, I discovered something that would help me to fundamentally change my relationship with food for good. Not just intellectually, but my thoughts, feelings and behavior changed. Even during intense stress, I did not return to my old coping mechanisms. I'd found my answer. This became The Food Craving Solution. I now offer this to others knowing it is my life's work.
I'm a foodie, and even though my food cravings, obsessions and overeating are in the past, I still have health issues I work on. My Mom took DES (toxic endocrine disruptor and carcinogen) while she was pregnant with me at the advice of her doctor. This left me challenged in many ways as a child and adult. Healing is an ongoing process for me and I am always learning, growing and sharing with my patients what I learn. I meditate every day, and have since 1988 and I don't leave home without it!
I live in Campbell, CA with my husband and we like gourmet French Fries as a treat. I love almost every vegetable and also enjoy fine dark chocolate (but not together). We love to hike, camp, and garden (organic of course!). He loves to play music, and I arrange succulents. We got married on a secluded beach in Kauai in Oct 2012 after meeting 20 years ago, losing contact and reconnecting on Facebook. We hope to have a large organic garden with backyard chickens sometime soon.
